Artist Mission Statement: My friend George McCalman wrote this for me, about me, and I love it: 20 years ago Georgia Hodges moved to the Outer Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco, a location that has come to define and expand her output as an artist. The proximity to the rigors of the edge of the Pacific Ocean takes hold of her interior perspective, and what has manifested is a cross-pollination of creative practices. The fog, land, sea, and air inspire...elucidate, really...her ceramics, paintings, and drawings. Her studio, a deliberately half-finished celebration of physical process, is a reminder that the journey is often more relevant than the destination. That self-determined cultural and political focus gave birth to a three story mural in 2020 inspired by the Green New Deal, an activated piece that cements her declarative place as an artist to watch.
Why Are You A Good Fit for this Program? I love our neighborhood and I feel that my art reflects this unique place at the western edge of San Francisco. I'm interested in collaborating to work specifically with individual businesses to reflect what they offer to our community in a visually compelling and beautiful way.
